Speaking the Language: Acronyms in
Energy System Modelling (ESM)

OET - Open Energy Transition

A non-profit company championing open-source tools and data to make energy system planning transparent and collaborative. (Yep! You guessed right. That’s where I work )

PyPSA / PyPSA-Earth – Python for Power System Analysis

A flexible, Python-based open-source model to study energy system futures worldwide. The most widely-used open-source tool for modelling everything from a single power plant to a continent-wide energy grid. Over 500k downloads per year!

ESM - Energy System Modelling

The process of creating computer models to plan for a future energy system. It's how we chart the path to a clean energy future.

MVP – Minimum Viable Product

Not “Most Valuable Player” 😄, but the simplest version of a product (or a model) that works. The simplest version of a model that can be released to get early user feedback. You build the basic car before adding the fancy sunroof.

TSOs – Transmission System Operators

The company that owns and runs the high-voltage power lines (the "electricity highways") in a country. (e.g., TCN in Nigeria). TSOs are key users of our models.

100% RE - 100% Renewable Energy

The ultimate goal of all this work! A future energy system powered entirely by renewables like solar, wind, and water. By the end of the year, I hope to be fluent in ESM-nese!
